OUR

story

The Bagel Beanery originated in May of 1995 in Grand Rapids at the corner of Michigan and College. The Bagel Beanery offers West Michigan’s best bagels, gourmet coffee, catering, and delicious deli sandwiches. We have continually grown as opportunities have arisen. While we own and operate the Michigan Street location, the other locations are now licensees.

In February of 2001 we purchased the two Sundance Grill restaurants, which also originated here in Grand Rapids in 1985. The Sundance Grill, which is renowned for its generous breakfast and lunch menu items, has developed a strong following for its South Western dishes and is open in the evening with Grand Rapids’ only Margarita Bar. We have two locations to serve you on 28th Street in Cascade and downtown on Ottawa Ave.

In October of 2001 we purchased one of West Michigan’s best restaurants, The Beltline Bar & Mexican Café, which had been in operation for over fifty years. The Beltline Bar was made famous for originating and introducing West Michigan to the Wet Burrito and have now served over 5.1 million orders of our signature dish. We are proud to be named Grand Rapids best Burrito - nine years running!

In 2003 we purchased the two Omelette Shoppe & Bakery’s in Traverse City Michigan, the first of which opened in 1975. The Omelette Shoppe is famous for the “world’s greatest omelette’s”, but their loyal followers may first boast about their homemade pecan rolls and cinnamon swirl pastries, which are baked fresh on site everyday. The Omelette Shoppe and Bakery is open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch with two locations in Traverse City, MI and one location in Grand Rapids, MI to serve you.

Acquired in 2005, Boone’s Prime Time Pub has been a long time favorite eatery for locals and vacationers in Suttons Bay, MI. From its quintessential stone and log cabin look to the selections of hand-cut steaks, fresh fish, handmade burgers & its Massive Bloody Mary, the Prime Time Pub says, “relax, you’re up north.” In 2016 we added a rooftop deck for additional outdoor seating during our beautiful Michigan summer and fall seasons.

In 2008, we welcomed Grand Coney Diner on Michigan Street to the RPM family. Grand Coney is a classic diner in Grand Rapids, Michigan famous for serving custom Coney Dogs, traditional breakfast items and mouth watering comfort foods. Our servers will greet you warmly, seat you promptly and serve you quickly. Whether you want a decadent milkshake or a savory entrée, you won't go wrong ordering any item on our menu!

Restaurant Partners purchased The Flap Jack Shack in Traverse City in February 2011. This landmark local restaurant temporarily closed its doors after nearly 35 years in business. The Bender family opened the Original Flap Jack Shack in the mid-1970’s at it’s original location along East Front Street. They later expanded and settled at their present location on U.S. 31. Upon hearing of their struggles local and restaurateur Jeff Lobedell couldn't stand to see this local favorite go away. With a little tender love and care the Original Flap Jack Shack reopened its doors under new ownership but with original staff and the cozy diner you remember and is still going strong today! Our family-friendly property seats over 240 people and uses fresh, local ingredients when and where possible.

In October of 2016, 4GR8Foods Brands acquired Rockwell Republic. This establishment is one of downtown Grand Rapids’ favorite hangouts. Located within the historic heartside district, Rockwell Republic is a lively gastropub with made-from-scratch, seasonal cuisine as eclectic as the environment itself. This classic brand is known for its’ craft cocktails, elevated outdoor deck, exposed-brick walls, high ceilings, dark mahogany wood, and three-season screened-in-lounge. We are proud to have been voted Grand Rapids Best Happy Hour and Best Bloody Mary 2 years running!

Also in 2016, RPI acquired the Red Geranium Café restaurants. One located on Kalamazoo Ave in Kentwood and the other is on Byron Center Ave in Wyoming. We pride ourselves on our delicious food made from only the freshest ingredients daily. Stop in and see what the local chatter is all about! Our wonderful neighborhood gathering places are open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week.

In April of 2017, RPI acquired Pete’s Grill & Tavern as well as the 84th Street Market in Byron Center, Michigan. 84th Street Market is your one stop convenient shop in Byron Center with an excellent selection of domestic and imported beer, wine and spirits. Pete’s Grill & Tavern has 75 years of history in Byron Center, Mi. Originally named Pete’s Place, This historic tavern has preserved much of its charm. Pete’s serves modern tavern fare, certified Detroit-Style Pizza, from scratch-made recipes, craft cocktails, beers, and wine, all in a comfortable, casual atmosphere that makes you feel at home. This buzzing local joint is never short on excitement. Not to mention our 12 televisions make it a great place to watch any game with your crew!

As the 4GR8Food Brands family continues to grow RPI purchased Noble Restaurant in Wyoming, Michigan in 2018. Known for serving honest, natural, scratch-made meals for breakfast and lunch; free from artificial colors & flavors, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial nitrates. Noble is proud to offer many vegetarian and vegan options.

Apache Trout Grill was created by Mike Connors in 1994 out of a passion for the Northern Michigan Outdoors and his love of the fresh fish he caught fly fishing. Located on the water, with a stunning view of Grand Traverse Bay, the Apache Trout Grill is one of the best restaurants in Traverse City. Our signature dishes include hand-cut choice steaks, fresh seafood, ribs, and more…which are always prepared with the freshest, local ingredients available.

In March 2021, Restaurant Partners welcomed Real Food Cafe to the Restaurant partners Family! Real Food Cafe was created by Frank & Renee Amodeo, a married couple who have a combined 60 years experience in various parts of the food service industry. Opening a restaurant of their own was their dream since the beginning. The first Real Food Cafe opened its doors in August 2000 on Eastern Avenue in the Alger Heights business district, Grand Rapids Michigan. It quickly became a neighborhood fixture with lots of everyday, even twice a day, regulars. Although we have expanded the building to its limits over the years, the restaurant has retained its quaint, neighborhood roots. When it was time to consider expansion, a second location was found on the north end of metro Grand Rapids, and in September 2006 the Northland Drive Real Food Cafe location opened. It quickly found its following and continued to be successful for 10 years. Seeking building ownership, the couple decided to relocate the Northland Drive location to a building purchased a few miles south - the current Plainfield Avenue Real Food Cafe location. The new location has plenty of parking for customers and, for the first time in Real Food history, ample prep and kitchen space!

In 2022, Restaurant partners acquired West End Tavern in Traverse City. Another wonderful creation by Mike Connors founded in 2016. Located on the water, with a stunning view of Grand Traverse Bay. The ever changing menu features quality cuts of steak, fresh fish, artisan pizzas, gourmet burgers and many more comforting entrees. In addition, the full bar makes it easy for you to pair your gourmet flavors with the perfect refreshment.

In 2022, we also expanded our family to include the Grand and Sugar Beach Resort hotels in Traverse City formerly owned and operated by Labelle Management. Sugar Beach, built in 1995, consists of 99 hotel rooms, while Grand Beach, built in 1992, consists of 100 rooms.

The Sugar Beach and Grand Beach locations are beautiful properties each with over 300 feet of sandy beach on the East Traverse Bay and are some of the best places to stay in all of Northern Michigan. The resorts are operated by longtime staff members who work as a team to create the best hotel experience for their guests.

All of the 4GR8Foods Brands, Inc. restaurants originated here in West Michigan, and are independently owned and operated. Our goal is to continue our expansion in these areas and with your help, we will continue to grow and create exciting opportunities for you and many others.
